Photo Report: Women’s West Nationals|Nanaimo Round 2
By Billy Rainford
Round 2 of the Women’s West Nationals took place this past weekend at the Wastelands MX Park in Nanaimo, BC. Under a mix of sun and cloud, the 22-woman field put on a great show. The previous week saw 34 ladies hit the track on the mainland in Kamloops, so you’d have to guess the costly ferry trip kept a few potential racers away for this round. Look for a full gate this weekend at Wild Rose in Calgary.
Here’s a look at some of the racing action from Saturday.
The Women’s West Nationals blast off for their first moto Saturday at the Wastelands in Nanaimo, BC.
#138 Kirstin Tse was solid first moto in 5th and then had to settle for 12th in the second for 10th overall.
#30 Courtney Stelter was consistent with 9-8 motos for 9th.
#6 Jamie Munro was up in the mix and in some great battles. 6-10 put her 8th.
Kate Lees took 7th with 8-7 motos.
#7 Madi Watt put her yellow spokes in 6th (7-6).
#151 Lexi Pechout went down in the first moto and scrambled back to 12th. She was 3rd in the 2nd moto for 5th.
#5 Dominique Daffé is going to find herself with a top 3 number if she can keep her consistency up. 4-5 gave her 4th.
#3 Brittany Danyluk is easily one of the best jumpers in Women’s Motocross. She tried to find a way to lose Saturday (she fell more than once) but managed to hold onto 3rd overall with 3-4 motos.
#50 Shelby Turner finished around 7 seconds back in both motos. Her 2-2 motos dropped her one point behind in 2nd for the championship.
Defending champ #1 Sara King showed her jump skills and took both moto wins. She should also be a favourite as we head into Calgary this week.
Co-organizer Sierra Roth is putting together a great series.
Kristi Moore is her counterpart and should be proud of what they’re doing for Women’s Motocross.
