Photo Report from Round 2 of the Canadian Triple Crown Series WMX East Motocross Nationals at Sand Del Lee in Richmond, ON.
By Billy Rainford
Let’s take a look at the racing action from Round 2 of the 2024 Canadian Triple Crown Series WMX East Motocross Championships from Sand Del Lee .
It was a 3H day just outside Ottawa, Ontario, on the weekend (hot, hazy, and humid) and most of the riders on the line on Sunday were also on the line the day before on Amateur Open Day.
With all the rain the area had received in July (Kevin Tyler told me they’d got over 8″ in the first half of July alone!) it was amazing to see they needed to run the sprinklers on race day morning, but they had the track in perfect condition once the racing started. There were 25 riders, not a full gate by any means, but a pretty decent showing. Let’s have a look.
The Lanterne Rouge went to #841 Ashley Ardizoni from Southwick, MA. We’ve got quite a few international riders in both WMX and the Pro series in the east. 25-22 put her 25th.
We had two #98’s on the track. This is Evelyne Falle who finished 24th with 23-21 motos.
The other #98 is Melanie Harvey from Quebec who finished just in front of Evelyne in 23rd (24-20).
#75 Lindsey Bradley is a Medic when she’s at the races but not on the track and then 22nd (19-23) when she was on it at Round 2. EDIT: It turns out she’s also a medic when she IS on the track! She was racing the second moto and got pulled off the track with 2 laps to go to assist with a French-speaking rider who was down and needed help. If you squint, you can see the cape sticking out in the back.
#21 Linsey Doyon from Quebec cracked the top 20 in moto 2 with a 19th and was 21st overall.
Making it into the top 20 was Killyann Brule who finished 18-24 for 20th.
#22 is Chantal Ouellet from Quinte West, ON. SHe was 19th with 22-18 motos.
#13 is one of the Page sisters from ??? because it’s not on the results…page. Mylie Page finished 20-17 for 18th.
I was impressed with the riding of #94 Kiana Kurtz at Round 1 last week. Round 2 didn’t go as well for the rider from Ariss, ON who came from last in moto 1 and ended up 17th after a 15-DNS score, but she’s heading to Loretta’s.
#454 Zaia Brind-Amour is half of another sister act. She finished 16th with consistent 17-16 motos.
#20 Angie Page was top Page with 16-14 motos for 15th. She was inside the top 10 early in moto 1.
#121 Brooke Johnson was the only Triumph on the property that I saw. The field got pretty spread out but the Nova Scotia rider had a nice little battle with Angie Page in moto 2. 14-15 put her 14th.
I hope #455 Azalie Brind-Amour isn’t superstitious because she was 13’s across the board. 13-13 for 13th overall.
Young #122 Thaly Girard was in a battle with #455 in both motos and finished just ahead of her with 12-11 motos for 12th.
This is how moto 2 started for #6 Brook Greenlaw from Burnt River, ON. She charged on her 250 2-stroke to 9-12 motos for 11th.
#33 Malia Garant isn’t quite letting it hang like she used to yet, but it’s great to see her back on the track after her injury. 10-10 put her 10th.
#92 Bella Morgan found Malia in both motos and the two had some nice battles. They traded victories with Bella going 11-9 to tie in points but get the nod in 9th.
#26 Jordanne Trottier ended up on her own in 8th in both motos for 8th on the day.
#8 Amelie Croteau is still battling with that broken thumb. I like her attitude out there – if she wants by you, you’ll know it! 6-7 put her 7th.
#10 Hannah Cole was in some good fights up near the front in both motos. I don’t know if she’s a sand rider so watch for her this week at River Glade. 7-5 put her 6th.
Riders seemed to pair off this week. For #14 Brittani Majcher it was a fight with Croteau. She finished 5th (4-6).
Speed-wise, #7 Katrine Ferguson from Manitoba seems to have everyone but the top 3 covered. She’s really close and should be there soon. 5-4 motos put her just off the podium in 4th.
#3 Kaylie Kayer can run with the top 2 on certain tracks, but she lost touch with them in the sand this past week. Watch for that to change out east this week. 3-3 for 3rd.
You can tell #469 Jamie Astudillo is frustrated with 2nd places to Eve. She was only 2 seconds off in moto 1 and could win one of these things at any time. 2-2 for runner-up spot.
Jamie really wants to come into focus at the front, but right now there’s only room for one.
They keep lining up and #1 Eve Brodeur just keeps knocking them down. She got out front early and led every lap. 1-1 for the overall.
WMX podium: Eve brodeur (1-1), Jamie Astudillo (2-2), Kaylie Kayer (3-3).
