Photo Report – Round 7 Canadian AX Championships

By Billy Rainford

We’ve only got one round left to determine the champions in the 2015 Future West Canadian AX Championships here in Chilliwack, BC. After what was an extremely cold weekend last week for rounds 5 and 6, the return of the rain was welcomed as it meant the temperature would be a much more reasonable 8-9 degrees.

Cycle North FXR Honda’s Ross Johnson is the defending champion and had a pretty good lead in both classes when the racing began last night, but there were 16 fast Pro riders to try and get in his way. Here’s a look at Friday night at the Chilliwack Heritage Park.

Huge thanks to Cycle North.

#18 Brad Nauditt had a 3-7 night and is a rider who can still win the Pro Open title.

IMG_1644

#474 Jake Anstett from Washington got out to an early lead in the Lights but went down in the under portion of the over/under. He finished 6-6.

IMG_1647

#87 Kyle Springman had a strange rear brake issue earlier in the night. Ruben and John got on the case right away and sorted him out.

#55 Keylan Meston and #819 Todd Sewell had a nice battle going on.

IMG_1661

As always, there was a full docket of amateur racing.

#313 Kyle Swanson had an 8-12 night. He had 250 issues and was forced to borrow a bike.

I was first to run over to Todd Sewell (and basically do nothing)…after I was sure to snap a photo or two. He was fine.

Meston finished 4-9.

#47 Dylan Delaplace is still feeling the effects of a long layoff. He finished 13-14.

#402 Ryan Abrigo was back in action. He only brought a 450 and finished 8th in the main.

This isn’t the official mascot, Sprocket, but he got the kids’ attention.

Patiently waiting their turn.

Noah McConahy made an unusual outside pass in the final turn to take the Husqvarna Dash for Cash $100 over Ross Johnson.

IMG_1694

He was happy. Stay close to him tonight when the bill comes to the table…

I was really impressed with #313 Brittany Danyluk’s 450 indoor skills. Kyle Swanson hinted that maybe she’ll ride it outdoors next summer. She easily won the Ladies class.

Congratulations to Ross Johnson and the Cycle North FXR Honda team on the Lights title. Sorry about some of the pics, I had a major Lightroom issue this morning. See you at the races…tonight.
