Monday Morning Coffee Opinion Column

By Billy Rainford

Just grab yourself a small cup this week. It’s been a busy morning here at DMX World HQ. Emily got her winter tires on her car and Al Strickert sent over a great interview with MX191 track owner Josh Neptune, so I got off to a late start on the MMC.

All the snow is actually melting here in London. It’s supposed to go up to 9 Celsius today and that should leave us with only snowbanks.

I mention Al’s adventures across the southeastern USA because he’s doing something pretty cool. He had already planned on hitting a bunch of tracks so I asked him if he’d like to report back to us on each of them and then we’ll do a final article on how it all went. He’s down there for like 4 months!

So far, he’s been to Monster Mountain and MX191. Check out his interview with Josh. I love his quote:

I compare motocross to MMA…if you also had to take care of the gym ~ Josh Neptune

The big news we got over the weekend was that Josiah Natzke was taking a ride in his home country of New Zealand. The series takes place during our winter, but when I contacted him to find out what it all meant, he said, “No more Canada for me. Bit of a shame but gotta make hard decisions sometimes.”

This leaves us to wonder what it means for the Red Bull KTM Canada team for 2025. Jess Pettis has already made the move over to the MX101 Yamaha team, so who will KTM have on their bikes this summer?

The Natzke just happened last week, so the team is obviously having to make some moves for next year. There are rumours about riders but nothing is concrete yet. WHo would you go after if you were in their shoes?

There are also talks about opening the 250 class wide open, meaning no limits on how many titles you can win before you’re kicked out of the class. It would mean that defending 250 champion Kaven Benoit would be eligible to defend the title again. But then who do you have that can run with Dylan Wright and Jess Pettis?

Here’s the Top 10 from both classes last year:

What would you do if you were KTM Canada?

It’s almost time for us to hand out the DMX Awards – The DMXies! We always have fun with these awards, so watch for them coming up as we get close to the New Year.

Club MX Videos Return!

OK, I’m already late, so we’ll have to leave it there without one of my silly stories! I’m sorry if that’s what brings you to MMC each week. It’s almost time to get a head start on my Christmas shopping, so off I go. Have a great week, everyone.

See you at the races… | Bigwave photo
