KTM Orange Brigade Camp 2016 – Monday Photos from Cahuilla Creek MX
By Billy Rainford
It was Day 1 of the KTM Orange Brigade Camp today at Cahuilla Creek MX just outside Temecula, California. Canadian OB riders, #81 Jacob Piccolo and #184 Tanner Ward, joined a host of very fast American amateur riders for a long day in the hot sun getting instruction from Nathan Ramsey and Buddy Antunez.
It was great chance to watch some fast ex-Pro riders pass on their vast riding knowledge to some of the stars of the future. They were divided into two groups – little bikes and big bikes – and taken through some instruction varying from standing up through corners, to downhill corner approach, and starts. Every rider left having learned something that will help them get faster.
I forgot to grab a typical shot of the track sign and went for this one at the last second as we left the Cahuilla Creek MX property.
Max was on site shooting video for the KTM Canada crew. He should have a really enjoyable video to watch when this week is over.
Here’s Max grabbing an interview with #184 Tanner Ward.
Tanner got the full Pro treatment getting his bike worked on by the KTM mechanics.
Dan Piccolo getting Jacob’s bike all ready for the afternoon riding sessions.
Adjusting the sag.
Tanner and Jake enjoying a short break between lessons. It was close to 30 degrees Celsius but there was a breeze and low humidity.
Nathan Ramsey explaining what the kids were doing next.
If ‘Vohland 711’ looks familiar, that’s because young Max Vohland is Tallon’s son.
Buddy was impressed with Jake’s technique through this corner and actually whooped every time he went through it.
#604 Max Miller was using every bit of this turn with his feet firmly on the pegs.
Max is also pretty solid at throwing his KTM Supermini around in the air, too.
#508 Hunter Yoder.
Aiden Tijero was getting through this corner fast, too.
They took a break and then went down to practice starts. With the concrete pad, they all did burn outs to warm the tires first.
#184 Ward won at least one of the races to the first turn.
#81 Jake Piccolo was had really fast reaction time but was no match for the Superminis he was up against once they got rolling.
Piccolo airing it out over the hot valley.
There is no shortage of style and personality in the Markolf family.
Max Markolf takes a look around over the table.
Jen Piccolo keeping cool in the shade.
Jake Piccolo enjoying some air time, too.
We ended the day with some shots in this sandy corner. Max figured he’d join in with the Canadians for some fun.
Tanner had a good time smashing this corner a few times, too.
Jacob took a few runs at it, too.
Max decided to go for one last blast…
Tomorrow, the crew heads over to Deegan’s property for some more #OBCamp16.
