Keast Draws First Blood in KTM Canada Supermini West Championship
by Billy Rainford
From KTM Canada:
KTM Canada will award the East and West Champions a 2016 KTM Canada Orange Brigade Factory Support Ride that will consist of a 2016 KTM 85 SXS, a parts account for the 2016 season, and support for graphics and additional sponsors. Additional prizes for the top three finishers will be provided by Motovan and their supporting OEMs, Scott, Zox and OGIO.
Round 1 of the West Championship took place at Whispering Pines in Kamloops, BC this past Saturday. 24 riders lined up and went for it on the same track that played host to the first round of the Rockstar Energy MX Nationals the following day.
It was #21 Kelowna Yamaha Fox Brigade Yamaha rider Casey Keast who ran away with the first win of the 3-round series. Keast will miss this weekend as he competes at Washougal in Washington State in an attempt to make it to Loretta Lynn’s later this summer.
15-year-old Keast’s absence will open the door for #234 KTM rider McCoy Brough from Kaysville, Utah, and #81 Maple Ridge Motorsports Fox Brigade Kawasaki rider Jake Piccolo who finished 2nd and 3rd overall Saturday after trading results.
12-year-old Piccolo is one of the most exciting riders to watch – no matter what age you’re looking at – and Brough is 16 and also qualified to race MX2 Sunday!
Round 2 takes place this weekend at The Wastelands in Nanaimo, BC and the 3rd and final round will be at Blackfoot MX Park in Calgary, AB the following weekend.
