Frid’Eh Update #42 | Guillaume St Cyr | Brought to You by RP Race Performance
Week #42 of the DMX Frid’Eh Update belongs to Guillaume St Cyr and is brought to you by RP Race Performance.
By Billy Rainford
Welcome to Week #42 of the DMX Frid’Eh Update brought to you by RP Race Performance. It’s been a bit of a tough week for me the last few days. I got sick from the flight home from England and have been pretty sapped of energy, but am feeling much better today.
Having said that, I didn’t really get up to a whole lot while being at home. The weather turned pretty cold and the leaves are finally starting to drop from the trees. Fortunately, the next week is supposed to be above 20C around here, so that means there will be ample opportunities to get out and ride, mx or bicycles.
The big thing going on at the moment is the 2024 FIM ISDE over in Spain. Team Canada ISDE is there and representing well. Unfortunately, we received some bad news this morning when we learned that Tyler Medaglia had crashed and broken his arm (more on that lower in the Update).
There is one day of racing left, so let’s hope all our riders are able to finish strong and continue to wave the Canada Flag proudly.
Guillaume St Cyr is #42 for the 2024 season here in Canada. The friendly rider from Quebec only raced the Deschambault National on a 350 in the 450 class and he finished 17-13 for 14th overall on the day and 41st in the series.
We got in touch with him this week to see what his racing plans for 2025 are. He’s been chasing the 250 Supercross series the past few years, but it looks like there is the possibility of heading overseas to race this winter. Here’s what he had to say:
Direct Motocross: Hello, Guillaume. We haven’t chatted in a while so let’s back it up a little bit. You only raced the Deschambault round of our Triple Crown Series MX Nationals. You raced a 350 in the 450 class, right? You were 14th overall. How did it go for you?
Guillaume St Cyr: Yeah, I only did Deschambault. It was alright, I didn’t really prep or anything for it. First moto I obviously got arm pump and struggled to end up 17th, but second moto did a way better race. I got a good start (top 10) and battled until the end for a 13th. Wasn’t too bad considering not being on the bike much before the race weekend.
How come that was the only one you raced?
It’s been a couple years. I stopped racing outdoor nationals since I’ve been racing AMA Supercross during winter because it’s so much money. Usually, I race the Triple Crown SX/AX series but this year they didn’t have any races.
And you’re normally a 250 guy. Why the big bike class?
I race on a 250 when I do Supercross and Arenacross, but my outdoor bike is a 350. I love that bike so much. It was also my Supercross practice bike the last two winters.
You only raced the last few rounds of SXQC but you won every round you raced. Why did you miss so many races?
Yeah, I missed a couple rounds because all those SQCX races are pretty far from me, so I choose rounds where I can make money.
What have you been up to since the end of the season? What do you do for work?
I’ve been working a lot. i actually worked a lot since I came back in April. I do renovations for my dad. He owns apartments.
I see on your Instagram that you’re going Supercross racing again. Are you any closer to knowing if you’ll be East 250 or West?
I’m still waiting for the next two weeks on a deal to go race Supercross overseas. That’s all I can say for right now, but if it doesn’t work out you’ll probably see me out west!
Oh cool. And I know you’re looking for some sponsors. How has that been going and what can you offer someone who might be interested?
Unfortunately, it hasn’t been really good. I just lost my biggest money sponsor and haven’t been able to replace it yet. I do special edition bikes, logos on canopies, pit shirts, helmet paint, posts on social media, etc..
What’s been your best Supercross finish up to this point and where was it?
My best result was in Glendale, AZ in 2024. I made my first Main Event ever. I got the holeshot and ended up 3rd in the LCQ then in the Main I got 20th and scored 2 points.
Where do you prefer to do your pre-season SX training, California or in the east?
Last year was my first time out west and really loved it, except the fact that everything is expensive! It was different to ride different tracks during the week instead of always riding the same track every day when I’m east.
If you do end up going west, how will you be travelling this winter? Truck and your trailer? Who will be with you? Mechanic?
I’ll be doing the Sprinter van and hotels at the races. I’m currently looking for a place to live in between races. I’ll be traveling with Anna my girlfriend and my cat Billy as usual. Ahaha! Anna will be with me on the gate again!
Did you watch the MXON? What did you think of it and of our results?
Yeah, I watched it all on Saturday and Sunday. The track looked so gnarly I was happy I wasn’t there! Ahaha! But yeah, Canada did all right. I think they got a couple bad lucks but at least they were in the big finals!
Hey, what do you do for off-bike training? Are you a runner or cyclist? Weights? Yoga?
During summer it’s hard to mix working, riding, racing, training and everything, so I mostly run after work at 6-7pm, if i’m not doing a moto or two at the local sand pit. But I use my job as training as well since I do pretty physical jobs! Gotta do it with what we got!
OK, Guac, we’ll keep in touch so we know where you’ll be racing this winter. Good luck getting it all together and who would you like to thank?\
Thanks,Billy, it’s always cool to chat a little! Thanks to everybody who supports me and all my sponsors:

Tyler Medaglia Injured at 2024 ISDE in Spain
As first reported by the Enduro Bureau over at the 2024 ISDE in Spain, Tyler Medaglia has crashed and injured himself on Test 2 on Day 5 of the 6-day event.
On a morning that was covered in dense fog, Tyler crashed and injured his arm. At this time, we don’t know the full extent of his injuries, but we spoke with Honda Canada GDR Fox Racing team owner Derek Schuster and he confirmed that, as of this post, Tyler was in surgery.
Tyler was sitting 33rd overall at the end of Day 4 and Team Canada’s World Trophy team was 11th.
We’ll update this post as we receive more information.

40th Annual Dubya World Vet Championship and World Vet “Cup of Nations”
I will be heading back to the Dubya World Vet Championship and World Vet “Cup of Nations” at Glen Helen again this year. Last year, it was amazing to watch how prepared Ryan “Skippy” Mobbs was with his organization of all the Canadians. This year, it looks like even more Canucks are planning to make the trip to California the first weekend of November!
The event takes place Nov 1-3 at the famed Glen Helen Raceway. It was rough and gnarly last year and our Cup of Nations teams finished 2nd, 3rd, and 10th:

They didn’t make a huge deal of this finishing order, so I hope they get a little more excited about the team competition this year. Many teams travelled from all over the world to do battle for this title, as you can see, so I hope they hype it up.
I’ll be posting updates all weekend to keep everyone informed on how our riders are doing, so be sure to check in on our Instagram and Facebook.
Last year’s overall video:
Facebook Continues to Remove Posts
Speaking of the all mighty FaceBook, their bots have been removing posts that link to our website lately and it’s getting very frustrating. AI seems to be at fault here. It’s very irritating because we are a Business Page on FB, so you’d think linking to your site would be the norm and accepted.
When you click the link to dispute it, the only options are for if the link is actually spam or offensive and you can’t check off anything remotely appropriate to our specific DMX problem.
Anyway, I hope they sort this out. I haven’t received any response from any of the appeals I’ve sent in yet, so we’ll see what happens “Very soon” as FB promised us…
Cole Thompson at the Australian Supercross Championship
Man, Cole Thompson from Brigden, Ontario, certainly made a splash at Round 1 of the 2024 Australian Supercross Championship, didn’t he!
I was able to watch it on Mav TV and it looked to me that Cole was the fastest rider on the track, but didn’t get the starts he needed. After a tough first round (9-8) where he fell and cleaned out himself and his two teammates in a corner, he rebounded the following day with 3-2. He now sits just 2 points behind his teammate Shane McElrath heading into Round 3.
Final 3 rounds: Nov 2, 17, and 30.

Next up for Cole is the WSX Championship on his Firepower Honda at the first round at BC Place in downtown Vancouver, BC on Saturday, October 26th.
That series then goes to Perth, Australia on November 23-24 and finishes in Dubai on December 4th.
Following that, Cole returns to Heartbeat Hot Sauce Team Solitaire Yamaha to compete in 250 West Supercross.
I’ll be heading over to Turkey Point over on Lake Erie to compete in a 53K XC Marathon mountain bike race Saturday morning. Greg Poisson and my buddy Shawn Reeder will be carpooling in the #DMXVan and we’ll be going head-to-head against each other. Greg is a younger age group than we are. I met Shawn back in the mid-1990’s when we were both competitive Tri Geeks.
The weather this weekend here in Ontario is supposed to be perfect: 21C and sunny. Thanks to Scott Bikes and Ryno Power Canada, I should be in the best shape for a MTB race that I’ve been in since way back in the mid-90’s! No pressure. 🤣
The obvious thought would be that the older classes should be pretty easy. However, it seems like all of the people who are still into sports in “older” classes are the ones who are still competitive! Excuse #1 ✅
You may or may not remember the name Josh Long from MX and off-road? He’s also signed up so it will be cool to see another motocrosser out on the trails. He races Under 35 Open and is fast, so I don’t think Ill be seeing much of him, once the racing starts.
Have a great weekend, everyone. I hope the weather where you are is going to be as nice as it is in these parts.
