Rounds 1 and 2 of the Monster Energy Canadian National Arenacross Tour presented by Royal Distributing have come and gone from the Western Fair Agriplex in London, Ontario. The venue was perfect to get the ball rolling on a new chapter in Canadian motocross.

A great crop of Pro riders signed up and gave the enthusiastic crowd a lot to cheer for. As is always expected in the tight confines of an arenacross race, there was enough tight racing and bar-banging action to keep the fans on their feet and yelling for their favourites.

Also, the Valvoline AX Tour Live Broadcast got off the ground and was a success. With an added camera for the rest of the rounds, following all the action from the comfort of your living room should be better than ever! Of course, if you’re within driving distance of one of these, you should really get in your car and witness the intense arenacross action first-hand.

Here’s closer look at how the action went down Friday and Saturday nights.

If you asked Taylor Ciampichini if the racing action was good over the weekend in London, this is the reaction you’d get.

Rockstar OTSFF Yamaha’s #7 Bobby Kiniry was unstoppable Friday night in both the Pro AX and Pro Lites classes on his 250.

TYS_5666

#148 Royal Distributing Fox Racing KTM Canada rider Cole Thompson has won this series south of the border and knows what it takes to win. He’s racing the AX Pro class and Clash for Cash on his 450. Oh, and I’m sorry about this, Steph.

Monster Energy has come on as title sponsor and the Monster Girls were on hand to get the crowd going throughout the night. Here, a T shirt is about to get fired into the audience.

#22 Preston Masciangelo was the fast one to watch in the 50cc class.

#65 PR-MX Strikt Kawasaki rider Scott Champion made the trip and struggled Friday night. He had a much better showing Saturday and should continue to improve in Sarnia in two weeks time.

TYS_5397

His teammate, #727 Dave Blanchet, got off to some amazing starts both nights. He grabbed 5th in Friday’s Lites and the Clash.

TYS_6079

The Marin Bikes halftime show features a two-lap mtb race. It’s pretty entertaining! Check it out in Sarnia. The winner got a new Reel camera for their efforts.

TYS_5678

Speaking of bikes, yes, that’s Donk on the left! He’s gotten the cycling bug and you can see the results are starting to show as he looks in the best shape of his life. Are those cheek bones?! And, of course, that’s Cole Thompson’s better half, Chloe, seated next to him.

TYS_5344

#72 Drew Roberts showed up to race his Xtreme Toys TCD bike but a shoulder problem kept him from lining up for the mains.

If you wanna be the best, you've got to learn from the best and THEN beat the best. #20 Canada's Motorcycle FXR Yamaha's Dylan Wright is starting in the right place.

#69 Redemption Racing Fly Dragon KTM rider Eric Jeffery was set to race but broke a couple bones in his hand Friday and had to miss the action.

#34 Honda Canada TLD GDR rider Westen Wrozyna had some good races this past weekend. His best was a 6th in Saturday night’s Clash.

Brett Metcalfe was in town for the Parts Canada Showcase Sunday and hung out with the Monster Energy Thor Kawasaki team.

Starts are always important in motocross, but in arenacross they are a necessity!

PR-MX Strikt Kawasaki rider #65 Scott Champoion had a rough Firiday night but came back to compete Saturday. His best was a 4th in the Pro Lites class main.

#10 Redemption Racing Fly Dragon KTM's Nathan Bles threw his hat in the ring and looked pretty comfortable at his first arenacross. His best was 6th in Friday's AX Pro class.

TYS_5399

Dylan Wright has potential at this stuff, and with some better starts would put himself right in the mix. 4-8-10 then 5-6-5 were his finishes. Pretty solid!

TYS_5374

#631 is Jordan Fredrick. He grabbed a couple 9ths Friday night but didn’t race Saturday night.

IMG_1573

#373 Jacob Williamson out of Michigan always seemed to be right there ready if someone should falter. His 6-5-6 / 4-5-4 finishes have him sitting high in the overall standings.

TYS_5342

Monster Energy Thor Kawasaki rider #101 Chris Blose put his indoor experience to good use in London. He was only off the podium once all weekend! 3-2-4 / 3-3-2 main events have him fighting for top spot in every class.

TYS_6033

His teammate, #100 Jacob Hayes, will be fighting for these championships right to the final round in Calgary. He won the Lites and Clash Saturday night.

TYS_5338

#148 Royal Distributing Fox Racing KTM Canada’s Cole Thompson had the partisan crowd on their feet Friday night when he came from back in 6th place to win the Clash for Cash.

TYS_5882

He returned Saturday night to take the AX Pro main win.

IMG_1672

#7 Rockstar Energy OTSFF Yamaha’s Bobby Kiniry impressed everyone with his Lites and Open Pro wins Friday night. He went wire-to-wire in both.

IMG_1562

He fell with Blanchet and then crashed hard at the end of the Race Tech Rockers section and took himself out of Saturday’s Clash for Cash. 1-1-3 / 2-2-12 have him leading the Lites and Open classes heading into rounds 3 and 4 in Sarnia, October 9-10.

TYS_6143

Kiniry, Hayes, and Blose on the podium.

TYS_6039

It was a great weekend of racing and should only get better as this Monster Energy Canadian AX Tour presented by Royal Distributing heads west. Be sure to grab your tickets early or check out the Valvoline AX Tour LIVE broadcast at every round. See you at the races…
