A Few Photos from Gully Mor Today with Shawn Maffenbeier and Josh Snider
By Billy Rainford
It’s that time of year when the Rockstar Energy MX Nationals are finished and I find myself looking for some racing or riding to cover. By random chance, I bumped into Josh Snider and Shawn Maffenbeier at a burrito shop last night and they told me they were heading to Gully Mor for a little more Team Canada MXON preparation. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity to tag along and shoot some photos, video, and an episode of ‘Tailgating’ with them!
Gully Mor is hosting an AMO event this Sunday, so if you’re in the area and looking for a nice, late-summer race, head on over to this track that is just outside London, Ontario.
Here are just a few photos from a very humid afternoon.
Surprisingly, this was my first trip to Gully Mor and it’s just 45 minutes from my door! Jim Roberts and his family have this nice property that has 3 different tracks on it.
Redemption Racing Team Manager, Josh Snider, threw a leg over Alex Jeffery’s bike and put in a couple solid motos.
‘Sniderman’ got back into form after just a few laps.
Saskatchewan’s Shawn Maffenbeier is preparing for his first trip to the MXON for Team Canada and wanted to get some more seat time on a hard clay track.
Found one!
The track seems to have a nice flow with some fun jumps.
We’d gotten some rain the night before so this step up was tricky to nail from the inside line, but Shawn made it happen.
Josh said he was hitting it from the outside line.
Shawn buttering the big, natural jump that leads to the finish line tunnel jump.
I like the old school, front end high look of this one.
The track was slick in spots and could jump out and bite you.
If you’ve watched any footage of the Maggiora track, it’s hard and fast.
Shawn feels right at home in these conditions because it’s what he grew up riding back in Saskatchewan.
Josh will head to Italy and spin the wrenches for Shawn in the MX2 class.
Josh fell in a corner and unbuckled his left boot.
No, this wasn’t staged. They were going over a section of the track…or describing ‘Enter the Dragon.’
A 20-minute moto followed his first 30.
Josh watches his guy put in a few more laps.
And then it was time to think about Episode 4 of ‘Tailgating.’
“Hmm, what would we talk about…?”
Don’t worry about it. Just get to the tailgate!
Dylan Kaelin made a guest appearance at the track.
And then in this episode of Tailgating, too.
There’s a reason I tell Jeff how long the interview is going.
You can never have enough bike shots at F2.8!
It’s a camera nerd thing.
“Hmm, nerd you say…”
Nah, just kidding.
Then we got the tailgate prepped and sat down for a rather long episode. When you watch it, just be sure you’re comfortable.
Thanks for the invite guys. Now I have to head home and hand Maggie over to Emily to bathe because she is rolling in something that has either been dead a while or came out the back end. Either way, Maggie stinks! See you at the races…
